I think this comment is true... although such auteurs can be very annoying.
ReplyDeleteYes. When an audience is too aware of the auteur at the expense of the story, I become a bit restless and uneasy for some reason.
ReplyDeleteThis is one reason why I have a special spot in my film-watcher's heart for William Wyler. He steps out of the way and lets the story speak for itself.
